The Hungarian Catholic Bishops’ Conference (HCBC) will host the representatives of the Hungarian Catholic communities arriving from all over the world on 22-23 September 2023. The main goal of the Diaspora Office, as part of the HCBC, is to maintain a living relationship between the Hungarian Catholic Church and the Hungarian Catholic communities in different parts of the world.
The two-day conference will feature presentations and reports on the daily challenges of family and community life, the World Youth Summit in August, the apostolic visit of Pope Francis to Hungary and other topics.
Providing pastoral care to Hungarian Catholics living in the diaspora is of particular importance to the HCBC. This is why András Veres, president of the HCBC, celebrated the memory of the Stephen of Hungary with one of the largest overseas Hungarian communities in Passaic, USA.
The current conference is also significant because Bishop Ferenc Cserháti, who dedicated his whole life to serving the diaspora, passed away this summer, and based on the decision of the HCBC, Bishop Kornél Fábry will also be responsible for this area as of the autumn of 2023, in addition to Bishop Gábor Mohos.
