The Hungarian Catholic Bishops’ Conference sends aid to Croatia

The Hungarian Catholic Bishops’ Conference decided to provide urgent aid for the Archdiocese of Zagreb in Croatia to support reconstruction works after a natural disaster caused severe damages in the area.

The Croatian capital was hit by a strong earthquake on Sunday morning. The earthquake damaged several buildings, including the Cathedral of the Assumption of Mary in Zagreb and other churches, while a number of houses became uninhabitable. The natural disaster left one person dead.

The Archdiocese of Zagreb was founded around 1093 by Saint Ladislaus of Hungary, who later had Saint Stephen’s Cathedral – the predecessor of today’s cathedral – built.

The Bishops’ Conference asks the members of the Church to pray for their disaster-stricken brothers and sisters.
